The National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music is delighted, and not a little relieved, to announce the release of its 20th annual CD.
As the name suggests, “Plockdown” was recorded in the fairly challenging circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic. The students were off the premises for long periods of time, and as off-site recording of the required quality was not possible, the album had to be pieced together in pretty pressurized conditions.
It’s worth remembering that this material has to be created as well as recorded, and it always represents the work of the whole year. Largely because of that, we have had to revert to a single CD this year, nonetheless still containing 14 tracks of the usual mix of traditional and contemporary material chosen, arranged, and often composed by the students themselves.
The Centre is always proud to be able to provide an outlet for the creativity of these talented young people, but even more so this year when it looked for a while as if the chain might be broken for the first time in 20 years. Thankfully that proved not to be the case, and so, albeit 8 months late, it’s great to be able to do our bit to keep the great Scottish musical tradition moving forward.“Plockdown” is available on iTunes, Spotify, and Apple Music. However, if you really want to support the Centre, the CD, along with all of the previous 19, can be purchased from our web site at https://www.musicplockton.org/music.asp.
